FREE ISBE VIRTUAL MATH COMMUNITY (#ILMathCom): Twice a month (usually on Thursdays) from 3:30-4:30 pm we offer an opportunity to join an open discussion with other educators across the state. Come prepared with your questions or ideas to share. These discussions will take place via Zoom, a free video conference software. Effective Differentiation in Mathematics
This professional learning experience looks closely at what Differentiation is and why it is so important in Math Instruction. Participants will look at ways to assess, group, and consider the needs for all level learners and then look at a few different Differentiation strategies that work well and can easily be implemented in the math classroom—Open-Ended Questions, Math Talks, Student Choice and Small Group Instruction.

This learning experience provides a modeled discussion of questioning tactics for teachers to implement the Mathematical Practice Standards. Teachers problem-solve issues in a traditional math classroom and create questions that lead to a higher level of student learning.

​Facilitating Math Talks in K-8 Mathematics
This professional learning experience explores the benefits of math talks for deep conceptual understanding and how to facilitate an effective math talk. This Learning Experience could be completed individually, as a small group, or as a large group. If completing this activity as an individual, consider journaling your reflections that you would have shared other if you were completing this as part of a group. Differentiation for the accommodation of different delivery settings is included in the notes of the PowerPoint.
